The Wilshire 5000 equity index, which includes about 7,000 stocks, is complied by both marketvalue- weighted and equally-weighted approaches. This index is being used increasingly because it contains most equity securities available for investment, including all NYSE and AMEX issues and the most active stocks traded on the overthe- counter (OTC) market.
